Structural Index of Metal Matrix Composites Evaluated with Computed Tomography
نویسنده
چکیده
X-ray computed tomography (CT) techniques have been used to evaluate a structural index of high performance metal matrix composites (MMC). Beside of classical features like the determination of number of fibres and eccentricity of fibre bundles an order parameter can be defined and demonstrated for the SiC fibre arrangement in Ti-MMC, which can be used to assess these materials. The samples for the investigations have been provided by MTU Aero Engines. They consist of a titanium matrix (Ti6242) reinforced by SiC fibres (SCS6).

Evaluation of Metal Artifact Reduction software in Computed Tomography
Introduction: The image quality of computed tomography (CT) can be seriously lowered by metal implants of patients. These implants are known to exert a significant impact on diagnostic accuracy due to artifacts. The current study aimed to assess the usefulness of Metal Artifact Reduction (MAR) software in the reduction of metal artifacts, in comparison to iterative rec...
متن کاملX-Ray Refraction Topography and Computed Tomography for NDE of lightweight materials
X-Ray Refraction Topography techniques are based on Ultra Small Angle Scattering by micro structural elements causing phase related effects like refraction and total reflection at a few minutes of arc as the refractive index of X-rays is nearly unity (1 – 10). The extraordinary contrast of inner surfaces is far beyond absorption effects. Scanning of specimens results in 2D-imaging of closed and...
متن کاملEvaluation of Metal Artifacts in Cone Beam Computed Tomography by Metal Supported Porcelain Crowns Using Different FOV and Localizations: An In Vitro Study
Introduction: Metal-supported porcelain crowns (MSPC) and bridge restorations may be present in the mouths of patients undergoing CBCT imaging. Artifacts that are caused by these MSPCs may adversely affect image quality. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of different FOV (field of view) and localization in FOV on metal artifacts caused by MSPC. Methods:</...
متن کاملMetal Artifact Reduction of Dental Fillings in Head and Neck CT Images
Introduction: The issue of metal artifact and its reduction is as old as the clinical use of computed tomography itself. When metal objects such as dental fillings, hip prostheses or surgical clips are present in the computed tomography (CT) field of view (FOV), make severe artifacts that reduce the image quality and accuracy of CT numbers. They can lead to unreliable ...
متن کاملStructural Evolution of Al-20% (wt) Al2O3 System during Ball Milling Stages
Production of nanostructured aluminum matrix composite powder by high energy ball milling is investigated. Scanning electron microscopy analysis as well as the tap and green density measurements were used to optimize the milling time needed for the completion of the mechanical milling process. Also, we studied the particles morphology and size distribution change with milling time and its corre...
